quickSketch

This is a sketch that started from a ball last night. Gave ZB BPR render a go, and for some reason, the mask wasn't aligning to the render. So I just used the flat shader and just render it. BPR is suppose to be quick and dirty right?

One Animation works

This is a short put together on the stuff I've been working on at One Animation. Jumping from project to project and being able to do more than just modeling satisfied me. It was a real blast.
I really enjoyed working on the projects and working with the people as well. It was an ultimate collaboration. Can't thank everyone at One Animation enough. As I attempt to single out names to list, another pops into my head. Just too many!!!

For Oddbods, I can't take much credit except for the props since the others worked on it mainly.
Hope more can be shared in the future.

ColourBatch Update

There's a couple of things on the back burner for some time. Cumberbatch is one of them. Went back to the sculpt and started a first pass texture on the head. The sclera of the eyes are still default white and unpainted. hope to pull out some hair soon.

On another note, can't wait for the whole season Sherlock 3 to be out.

Benedict Cumberbatch

This was a real challenge for me. It took about 6-7 attempts to try and get some of his likeness. Couldn't work too long to realise the sculpt doesn't look like the person himself. Eyes kept playing tricks on me. Mid way I was very tempted to use Mudbox because of some of the stencils but it's still in Zbrush.

Initial block in with choice of Normal-batch, Sherlock-batch or Khan-batch
Also I've been sick, down with almost everything. It was a real tough time. I still think it doesn't look like him 100%. :( It will have to do for now. Still thinking of taking it to Mudbox.

Art Story!

Art story caught my eye this morning. It's a project started by Aaron Blaise and Chuck Williams. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/291846368/art-story
Support them!
Being down, I decided to sculpt one of the cool designs with permission.

wip girl

The "gotta catch em all" syndrome caught up to me again. Lately in the form of pinterest. The infinite possibilites of pinning media to your board and being connected to people is so insurmountable that I've learn to just embrace it. Chanced on a concept art and I was so tempted to do it at work. Here is the sculpt I cleaned more up tonight after a 40-50 min lunch sculpt at work. It's still super WIP and hope to get more work done on this soon.

JD Pirate Headsup

One of the main considerations for this little project was to try and do stylized hair. Though it's not a big portion of the final render, it was one of the main decisions to finish it. Since I had the experience with styling hair in Blender, I considered blender for rendering --it was so, so intuitive to groom it in blender, I fell in love with it. At the same time, I wanted to try out Zbrush's fibermesh. Also considered Renderman as my choice of renderer. In the end it was a mix of zbrush's fibremesh and good old hand drawn curves. In the end, did a bit of texture adjustments, moved some parts around and tons of shader tweaks.

Comparing the older one and this one, forgive my shamelessness for posting that. I was a Vray noob then. I'm not surprised if I will hate this version one day but yeh moving on.

Big thanks to Dan, Dongjin and Brendan for your fresh eyes. Appreciate it much.

Old New Beetle

I've always wanted to model one of those "vis-dev"cars how Dongjin puts it. Initially, the design started as a generic designed car and after a couple of revisions it still lacked character and I decided to go with a design that catches my eye at a car park lot. The New Beetle. I think it's really the yellow.

Did a bit of research into the New Beetle and was quite surprised it is still being revamped. And they just keep getting better while retaining the essence of the design.

There was a great amount of time and effort devoted to troubleshooting materials, isolating material settings, remaking materials and tweaking render settings. Most of the artifacts have been removed but it's still noisy even after a 6 minute per frame render... lol. I definitely learned much in refining the renders and what each slider and button does. There's more to this car project I have plans for but it will have to do for now as a stand alone.

Indeed Tareq, the last 20% requires 80% more everything.
